Gillian Dorman Smith is the Safeguarding Officer for St Mary's West Acklam

Gillian retired in
2014 but all her working life was spent in education. From starting off as a
classroom teacher in Birmingham in 1976 she has assumed responsibility for many
aspects of education encompassing a number of leadership roles, including headship.
She taught in Birmingham, Wallsend , Washington and Sunderland before coming to
Middlesbrough in 1993.She was appointed
headteacher in Stockton on Tees
in 1996 and from 2003 until her
retirement she worked in the same local
authority as an education adviser.
Gillian passionately believes that all
children and young people deserve the very best opportunities in their lives
including those activities and opportunities for worship provided by the
church.
Since assuming the role of Safeguarding Officer for St Mary's in 2014 she has worked closely with the
diocese, PCC and all those who work in the church with children and young
people to ensure that our training, policies and procedures are in place and
regularly reviewed.
